Meric Altinoz, MD

Meric is an experimental medical researcher, lecturer of molecular biology and genetics (Halic University) and candidate of an immunology doctorate (DETAE program in Istanbul University) from Turkey.

In 1997 and 1998, he voluntarily involved in research studies investigating the role of nf-kappaB (a major transcription factor in regulating immunity and cell death) in the radiation resistance of prostate cancer and neuronal resistance against hypoxia. After graduating from medical school in 2001, he did a post-doctoral fellowship in neuro-immunology, where he investigated molecular behaviour of brain tumors, in which he also attended and contributed to the seminars about multiple sclerosis immunology. There, he actively investigated and published about 3 major topics: 1- Progesterone analogues effects on 3D migration of human glioma cells, 2- The role of the Coxsackie-Adenovirus receptor on the 3D growth of human glioma, 3- Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) mutation associations with tumor spread and the second major role of VHL Disease as a cause of the peculiar tumor-to-tumor metastasis phenomena.

Following his postdoctoral fellowship, together with Osman Borutecene he established www.kusgribi.com to enhance public knowledge about avian influenza in Turkey, where major economic losses and human fatalities have occured due to H5N1, while he was developing a triage system for the emergency department of the private Memorial Hospital in Istanbul.

In 2006, he was assigned to the lecturer position in the molecular biology and genetics department of the private Halic University in Istanbul. In July 2008 and February 2009, his biography was selected by the Marqui’s to be published in 2009-2010 editions of “Who’s Who” and “Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare” respectively. In May and August 2009, he was selected by International Biographic Centre of Chambridge as one of the “Top 100 Health Officials” and “The International Hippocrates Award for Medical Achievement”, respectively. Recently, he was also selected as a peer reviewer for the journal “Neural Regeneration Research” of China until 2012.

Osman is a coach, mentor, part time lecturer and blogger. He is an adjunct in Bilgi University, Faculty of Communication/Public Relations. His primary areas of interests are clinical psychology, perception, social psychology, alternative medicine, cultural side of alternative medicine, and cognitive sciences.
